Quark number scaling of v2 in transverse kinetic energy and it’s implications for coalescence models

چکیده
We find that a simple extension of the coalescence model is sufficient to incorporate the perfect quark number scaling behavior of the elliptic flow in transverse kinetic energy, recently discovered by the PHENIX Collaboration. The flavor dependence of the elliptic flow can be consistently described in the low and intermediate pT if the transverse kinetic energy is conserved in the 2 → 1 or 3 → 1 parton coalescence process at the hadronization. Thus suggesting the quark coalescence as a possible hadronization mechanism at low pT as well.

Scaling of Anisotropic Flows in Intermediate Energy and Ultra-relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
Anisotropic flows (v2 and v4) of hadrons and light nuclear clusters are studied by a partonic transport model and nucleonic transport model, respectively, in ultra-relativistic and intermediate energy heavy ion collisions. Both number-of-constituent-quark scaling of hadrons, especially for φ meson which is composed of strange quarks, and number-of-nucleon scaling of light nuclear clusters are d...

We present the elliptic flow v2 of pions produced from resonance decays. The transverse momentum pT spectra of the parent particles are taken from thermal model fits and their v2 are fit under the assumption that they follow number-of-constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling expected from quark-coalescence models. The v2 of pions from resonance particle decays is found to be similar to the measured pion...
متن کاملInvestigating the scaling of higher-order flows in relativistic heavy-ion collisions
Relativistic heavy-ion collisions provide a useful way of studying the new phase which may exist at extreme high energy densities on earth. Collectivity is one of the main evidences of the produced dense matter, named as quarkgluon plasma (QGP), produced in relativistic heavy-ion collider (RHIC) [1–4]. Due to the almond shape of the produced QGP in non-central collisions, there are more freeze-...
متن کاملQuark coalescence based on a transport equation
Hadron spectra measured at intermediate transverse momenta, pT=2-6GeV, in 200AGeV Au-Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) have revealed a surprisingly large baryon-tomeson ratio ~1 and a so-called constituent quark-number scaling (CQNS) of the elliptic flow, v2(pT). Both phenomena are rather naturally explained within quark coalescence models (QCMs), where constituent qua...
متن کاملDynamics and hadronization at intermediate transverse momentum at RHIC
The ultra-relativistic heavy-ion program at RHIC has shown that at intermediate transverse momenta (pT ≃ 2-6 GeV) standard (independent) parton fragmentation can neither describe the observed baryon-to-meson ratios nor the empirical scaling of the hadronic elliptic flow (v2) according to the number of valence quarks. Both aspects find instead a natural explanation in a coalescence plus fragment...
